MOIST // DAVID ELFSTRÖM LILJA
(updated: 2025-10-03)
Moist is the creative moniker of Swedish producer, remixer, and composer David Elfström Lilja, who has steadily built a reputation in the electro and electronica scene. His emotionally rich and sonically cinematic productions combine nostalgic textures with modern sensibilities.
With a career spanning decades, David has collaborated with and remixed iconic artists such as Pet Shop Boys (UK), Lustans Lakejer (SE), Red Snapper (UK) and more. His own work has, in turn, been reimagined by legends like Tangerine Dream (DE), The Beloved (UK), and Kebu (FI), and has received recognition from electronic music pioneers like Wolfgang Flür (ex-Kraftwerk).
In addition to his work as Moist, David co-wrote a track with Vince Clarke (Depeche Mode/Yazoo/Erasure) for his instrumental project Árstraumur’s upcoming album Aurora. His work has also earned three consecutive nominations at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and he was honored with his hometown of Söderhamn’s Cultural Prize for his lasting contributions to the local music and arts community.
Moist’s 2024 album “Refurbished” (I/O Music) is a passionate homage to the music that shaped him. Featuring 14 reinterpretations of classic and cult tracks from the ’80s, the album brings together a diverse lineup of guest vocalists including Paul Rein, Maria Marcus, Johan Baeckström and Luna Joyce to reimagine songs by Eurythmics, U2, Yazoo, Cyndi Lauper, and more. It’s a deeply personal project, born out of a need to reconnect with creativity during a difficult chapter in life.
Whether remixing legendary acts, releasing introspective originals, or collaborating with rising and established voices, Moist continues to evolve… guided by emotion, craftsmanship, and a lifelong love of electronic sounds.
David also runs I/O Music, an independent label he founded in 2011 in Söderhamn, Sweden. Based in Gävle, he has developed the label into a creative hub for electronic music—covering styles from pop and ambient to techno and experimental.
